Our Church
Doctrine

Calvary Baptist Church is an independent Baptist Church. Our beliefs are founded on the following basic teachings from the Bible:

1. We believe that the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God. It is our position that the purest translation of those writings are found in the King James Bible, since others were foundationally flawed by Messrs. Westcott and Hort.

2. We believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God. Believers are adopted into the family of God, but Jesus is that one and only Son of God ever born of a virgin or proceeded from God.

3. We believe that the only way to have eternal life is to receive Jesus Christ as one's personal Saviour based on knowing that all human beings are born with a "sin nature" and must be redeemed through repentance of their sins and acceptance of the gift of salvation through Christ.

4. We believe that once saved, a convert is obliged to be baptized by immersion in water. It is not our position that baptism saves anyone, but that the issue here is obedience to the Scriptures.

5. We believe in the Biblical account of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus for the payment of the sins of the whole world, while at the same time rejecting a general salvation. That is to say that we believe He physically died on the cross, was physically buried, and that after three days and three nights arose from the grave wholly alive.

6. We believe that salvation is absolute and permanent, as the Bible states. It is our position that when "eternal and everlasting" are used, they mean exactly what they are known to mean, which precludes anyone losing their salvation. We hold that people are preserved, not persevering to get to Heaven.

7. Our church government is quite simple. We take the Bible's teaching that the pastor is the earthly shepherd of the flock. We do not find denominations in the Scriptures, and so are independent from them. Our active church members have a very clear voice in the direction of the church and it's activities, while the pastor "owns" the pulpit under the leadership of the Holy Spirit.

8. We believe that God's powers have never diminished. He still heals, still saves and secures, still leads His own. He is still a God of miracles and worthy of all honor. We are not at all charismatic doctrinally, though we believe in the omnipotence and omniscience of God in all three of His persons. We believe those persons are God the Father, Jesus the Son of God, and the Holy Spirit. All distinct, all one God.

9. We believe that Jesus is Coming back to establish His kingdom as He said. Before that occurs we trust that He will come in the air for His church (the Rapture), which will be followed by seven years of tribulation, and then He will return with His saints to conquer death, and Satan.

We believe these truths, but also understand that liberty demands acknowledging that others of good faith may certainly disagree with us on any but the major doctrines of Bible and faith as a means of Salvation, etc.
